Wheat Bread Jamun

Are you feeling bored at home and are you a sweet lover??? Then here  comes a simple and easy to make sweet dish. You need not go to the store for the ingredients....

We are going to see how to make yummy and healthy wheat bread jamun at home. The reason why i chose wheat bread is that , now-a-days many people have switched to wheat bread from white maida bread so, we might have it at all times at home.

The ingredients we need are very commonly available at home.
Wheat bread - 4 slices , cut off the crust and corners
little water
Sugar - 1 cup
water - 1 cup for making sugar syrup
food colour - orange (kesari colour)
cardamom - 2
Method :
1. Cut the corners of the bread slices.
2. Dip the bread slices in a little water(use a shallow bowl) and take out immediately.
3. Squeeze out as much water as you can.
4. Make a soft dough and roll into small balls.
5. Deep fry these balls in low heat. Remember, these balls will become dark brown very soon,
since it is wheat bread. So, the heat should be sim.

6. Keep the fried balls aside.
7. With the sugar and water, make a syrup in 1/2  string consistency. Add the food colour mixed in little water and also the crushed cardamom seeds in the syrup while it is boiling.

 8. Now, the fried balls would have cooled down. Add them into the syrup, while the syrup is still hot.

*Remember, either the balls or the syrup should be hot, not both.
*One more important  information i want to tell you is that the balls will not become big after it is  soaked, unlike the regular gulab jamun.
*You can eat these brown jamuns within half an hour of soaking in the sugar syrup.
*If you are expecting a sudden guest, you can treat them with these brown jamuns in no time....

Comments

  1. Instead of cardamom seeds you can use cardamom powder so that you dont get to bite on the seeds when you eat Jamuns and when you make bread balls you can put a peice of pista and then roll it into a ball, this will give you a different flavour. Try it!

Significance of Pillayar Nonbu

Pillayar nombu is a nombu celebrated exclusively by Naattukkottai Nagarathars. This post is intended for young chettiar couples living far from their families, who want to know about this nonbu and celebrate it at home. The significance of performing this nombu, is that we pray to Lord Ganesha, requesting him to remove all the obstacles in our life.  I have heard that there are 3 versions of the story behind this nonbu. I am sharing the one that my mom has told me... A teenage girl was ill-treated by her step-mother. On karthigai deepam day, this step-mother's diamond ring was missing and she accused this girl of stealing her ring. This girl went to a pillayar temple and prayed to Lord Ganesha that she will prove herself as innocent and find the ring. So she started saying her prayers to Lord Ganesha, by removing one thread a day from her cotton saree for 21 days. She promised to the God that, when she proves her innocence, she will make the number of threads she has on that day as...

Pillayar Nombu ellai maavu

Pillayar Nombu is celebrated in honour of God Pillayar  (Ganesha) by the Chettiars  on the 21st day after the Thirukkaarthigai Deepam, when Sashti Thithi and Sadayam (also called Shatabhisha) Nakshathra come on the same day. In US, it comes on Dec 26th, 2014. To make the ellai maavu , you will need Raw Rice - 1 cup Jaggery grated - 1/2 cup To prepare the rice flour, first soak the rice in water for 2 to 3 hours. Then drain the water and spread it on a paper towel or white cloth and let it dry for 20 minutes. Now, the when the rice is still wet, grind it in a mixie , into a powder. Sieve it and collect the coarse powder and grind it again and seive it. Repeat this until very less coarse powder is left.                                     In a pan, put the jaggery and add 2 tbsp of water and heat it until the jaggery dissolves completely. Now, sieve i...

Kesari (கேசரி)

This sweet dish is simple and easy to make with ingredients which are all time available. I had very less time early this morning to make some sweet on my wedding anniversary. So, I chose kesari , which took only 10 minutes to prepare. Let's see how to prepare kesari. Simultaneoulsy ,boil the water in a pan . Now add the rava in the same kadai and keep roasting it in low flame, until you get a good smell . Then pour the boiling water into the roasted rava and keep stirring continuously so that lumps do not form. Once the rava is cooked, and becomes thick, add the sugar and keep stirring. The mixture will become watery again ...
