Kuzhipanniyaaram (Rice Cake Pops)

This is a chettinaad delicacy............

Raw Rice - 1 cup (Sona Masoori Rice)
Boiled Rice - 1 cup (Idly Rice)
Urad Dal - 1/2 cup
Fenugreek Seeds - 1 tbsp
Salt  - as needed
Kuzhipanniyaaram Pan / Electric Cake Pop maker

Soak all the ingredients together for a minimum of 2 hours and grind it like idli batter. Add salt and let it ferment overnight.
Heat the Kuzhipanniyaram Pan / electric cake pop maker, coat it with a cooking spray and pour
little batter in each of the spaces and pour 1 tbsp oil on every kuzhipanniyaaram. When one side is cooked, turn it over, pour another tsp of oil on each one of them and cook. Once done, it is ready to eat . I use our traditional wooden stick to turn them over, but you can also use a fork.

You can enjoy this kuzhipanniyaaram in a traditional way like this ............... when you heat the pan,
pour 1 tsp of oil into each space and then pour the batter. Also, when you turn it over, pour 1 tsp of oil on each and cook. Tooooo Yummmmmyyyy..... BUT.... TOOOOOO OILY...... and TOOO much CALORIES ...

There is a special chutney which will be a good combination to these Kuzhipaniyaarams, for which
I will be posting the recipe soon.....

Significance of Pillayar Nonbu

Pillayar nombu is a nombu celebrated exclusively by Naattukkottai Nagarathars. This post is intended for young chettiar couples living far from their families, who want to know about this nonbu and celebrate it at home. The significance of performing this nombu, is that we pray to Lord Ganesha, requesting him to remove all the obstacles in our life.  I have heard that there are 3 versions of the story behind this nonbu. I am sharing the one that my mom has told me... A teenage girl was ill-treated by her step-mother. On karthigai deepam day, this step-mother's diamond ring was missing and she accused this girl of stealing her ring. This girl went to a pillayar temple and prayed to Lord Ganesha that she will prove herself as innocent and find the ring. So she started saying her prayers to Lord Ganesha, by removing one thread a day from her cotton saree for 21 days. She promised to the God that, when she proves her innocence, she will make the number of threads she has on that day as...

Pan-Seared Shrimp

In this day and age, everyone is looking for protein rich food and less carbs. I am presenting a quick and easy recipe of protein rich pan-seared shrimp. Webmd states that 100 grams of cooked shrimp contains 24 grams of protein. Click on the link to learn more nutrition facts about shrimps. You will need the following ingredients (this is one serving) Shrimp - 9 , shelled, deveined Red chilli powder - 3/4 tsp Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Salt - 1/2 tsp or as per your taste Lemon - 1 small Garlic - 1 pod, crushed Cooking oil - 1 tsp Fennel seeds - few Rice flour - 1 tsp In a bowl, add the cleaned shrimp, then add the salt, turmeric, chilli powder and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour. I am not using the lemon juice for marination. Usually, if it is a non-acidic marinade, you can marinate from 15-20 minutes to 1 hour. But with acidic marinades like lemon juice or vinegar, you can marinate no longer than 30 minutes. Acidic marinades can start to cook the shrimp, leading to tough and mu...
