1/2 cup - Toor Dal
1/2 cup - Coriander Leaves (cleaned , washed and chopped)

Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Coconut - 2 tbsp (optional)
Green chillies - 2 / 3 as per your taste
Salt as per taste

Tempering ( Optional)
1 tsp - oil
1/2 - tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp - asafoetida
few curry leaves

Method of Preparation:

1. Soak Raw Rice and Toor Dal together for atleast 2 hours.
2. In a grinder/ mixer, put the soaked rice, dal, and all other ingredients together and grind into a
    dosa batter consistency.
The batter will look like this

3. You can temper batter with mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves , if you like. I have not done that
because my kids doesn't like dosa that way.
4. Now heat a griddle / tawa and pour a laddle full of batter into a dosa and smear it with little oil.
Cook it until it is crisp.
5. For kids, you can use ghee instead of oil.
6. The crispy, healthy dosa is ready to eat. You can eat it with any chutney or any of my 2 dosa podis
     dosa podi 1 , dosa podi 2  .
Click the words chutney, dosa podi 1 & 2 for the recipes

Enjoy the green dosa ............... will come back with another new and interesting recipe soon.

Significance of Pillayar Nonbu

Pillayar nombu is a nombu celebrated exclusively by Naattukkottai Nagarathars. This post is intended for young chettiar couples living far from their families, who want to know about this nonbu and celebrate it at home. The significance of performing this nombu, is that we pray to Lord Ganesha, requesting him to remove all the obstacles in our life.  I have heard that there are 3 versions of the story behind this nonbu. I am sharing the one that my mom has told me... A teenage girl was ill-treated by her step-mother. On karthigai deepam day, this step-mother's diamond ring was missing and she accused this girl of stealing her ring. This girl went to a pillayar temple and prayed to Lord Ganesha that she will prove herself as innocent and find the ring. So she started saying her prayers to Lord Ganesha, by removing one thread a day from her cotton saree for 21 days. She promised to the God that, when she proves her innocence, she will make the number of threads she has on that day as...
