Hello viewers,
Today I am going to share the recipe for kaara kozhukattai which is prepared as a special offering for Lord Ganesha. I have named it spicy but it is not very spicy though!
Ingredients:
This recipe makes about 21 lemon - sized kozhukkattai
Rice Flour - 1/2 cup ( I used store bought)
Water - 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups(warm)
Green chillies - 2 small (de-seeded and finely chopped)(you can add less if you wish)
Ginger - 1 tsp (peeled and grated)
Coconut - 1 tbsp grated
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp or as per taste
Sesame oil or Ghee - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - few sprigs
First, heat a wok and heat the oil . Then add the mustard seeds , cumin seeds and curry leaves . Then add the green chillies and ginger and saute. Add the salt now itself , so that it mixes well.
Now, it is time to pour the water and let it boil. When the water is boiling, add the rice flour little by little and keep mixing with a whisk continuously, so that lumps don't form.
Continue mixing until a dough is formed and it starts rotating with the laddle, leaving the wok.
Now, switch off the stove and let it cool down until you feel that the heat is hand resistant.
Now add the grated coconut and mix well. We are adding the coconut at this stage, because you need not saute the coconut. It will get cooked when we will steam the kozhukkattai.
Now take a tsp of sesame oil in a small plate. Grease your fingers with the oil and make lemon sized balls out of this mixture ( you can make any shape you like) and steam them in an idli cooker. I used a mini idli plate, so that they don't stick together after they are done.
Serve while hot and enjoy !! These soft steamed balls are a delicious treat ,whether served as breakfast or a healthy snack, for the elders, kids and Lord Ganesh as well..😉
