Kaara Kozhukattai (Soft and spicy rice flour steamed dumplings)

Hello viewers, Today I am going to share the recipe for kaara kozhukattai which is prepared as a special offering for Lord Ganesha. I have named it spicy but it is not very spicy though! Ingredients: This recipe makes about 21 lemon - sized kozhukkattai Rice Flour - 1/2 cup ( I used store bought) Water - 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups(warm) Green chillies - 2 small (de-seeded and finely chopped)(you can add less if you wish) Ginger - 1 tsp (peeled and grated) Coconut - 1 tbsp grated Cumin seeds- 1 tsp Salt - 1/2 tsp or as per taste Sesame oil or Ghee - 1 tbsp Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp Curry leaves - few sprigs First, heat a wok and heat the oil . Then add the mustard seeds , cumin seeds and curry leaves . Then add the green chillies and ginger and saute. Add the salt now itself , so that it mixes well. Wheat Rava Pongal ( Godhumai ravai pongal)

This is yet another healthy dish. Everybody likes pongal. But, instead of rice and making pongal, I am going to now tell you how to prepare pongal with wheat rava. You will need : Wheat Rava - 1 1/4 cup Yellow Moong Dal (paasi paruppu) - 1/2 cup Ghee - 1 tbsp (optional) Oil - 2 tbsp Pepper corns - 8 - 10 (crushed) Ginger grated / crushed - 1 tbsp Cumin seeds ( jeera) - 1 tbsp Curry Leaves - few Green chillies - 2 small (chopped) Onion finely chopped (optional) Water - 3 cups Salt - as per taste 1. First wash the moong dal and add 1 cup of water and pressure cook. Keep aside. 2. Then in a pan, heat the oil and put the cumin seeds, curry leaves and crushed pepper. 3. Add the grated ginger and chopped onion(if you are using chopped onion) and saute it. 4. Now add salt, the cooked dal and the 3 cups of water and let it come to a boil. 5. Kambu Maavurundai

Kambu Maavurundai / Bajra Flour Laddoo / Pearl Millet Flour candy balls Here is another recipe for this festive season... Ingredients required: Kambu Maavu - 1/2 cup Naattu sarkarai {Light Brown Sugar} - 1/2 cup Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp Warm Ghee - 3 tbsp Cashew nuts - 3 or 4 broken into pieces and fried in ghee Heat 1/4 tsp ghee in a pan and roast the pearl millet flour for 2 minutes. Keep the flame in sim and add the brown sugar and cardamom powder and mix well. Now add the ghee and nuts and mix well. Switch off the stove. Transfer the contents to a bowl and leave for 2 minutes. When the mixture has cooled down a little bit, take little mixture in your hands and make balls. Healthy snack for everyone is ready ....

Kambu Halwa {Pearl Millet Soft Candy}

Hi viewers I am very happy to post this blog after a very long time. I have chose my "ingredient" for this year's Diwali , to make sweet and snack. I am going to post atleast 2 sweet recipes made with Kambu Maavu / Pearl Millet Flour / Bajra Aatta. There are different types of millet such as Pearl Millet, Foxtail Millet, Finger Millet, Kodo Millet , Barnyard Millet and a few more... Pearl Millet is good source of fiber, calcium and protein. Let us see what ingredients we need to make kambu alwa Kambu maavu - 1/2 cup Sugar - 3/4 cup Water - 2 tbsp Cardamom Powder - 1/2 tsp Yellow food colour - 2 drops Ghee {clarified butter}- 2 tbsp Heat 1/4 tsp ghee in a pan and fry the millet flour for 2 minutes. Then transfer it to a bowl and keep aside. Now in the same pan, put the sugar and add 2 tbsp of water and stir well and make a sugar syrup with 1 string consistency. Hi readers I am posting in this blog after a very long time. I hope to write regularly hereafter... This recipe is a yummylicious for kids and adults as well. This is also an excellent way of using up the left over idlis. You can use fresh idlis or mini idlis in this recipe. Thirattuppaal(Milk Cake)

Hi everybody, Happy Diwali to all of you. This Diwali I made paalkova with thirattuppaal. If you get a chance to get seem paal (cow'sfirst milk after a calf is born), it will be rich in taste and quality. I used normal whole milk for this recipe. You will need: Whole Milk - 1.75 litres Sugar / Jaggery - 1 1/2 cups (I used jaggery for this recipe) Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp Ghee - 1 tsp Lemon juice - 2 tbsp or less In a heavy bottomed pan, pour the milk and let it come to a boil, stirring ocassionally. Now add 1 tbsp of  lemon juice and keep stirring, You will see that the milk has started to curdle. If the milk didn't curdle, then add  little more of the lemon juice. First the milk will look like the photo 1 below, then when it has fully curdled, it will look like in photo 2 below. Then , seive it in a siever and remove the curds and whey. Healthy Pasta Salad

Hi all,  I am back with a new recipe after a long time . This is a very simple and easy recipe. You will need :  Penne Pasta - 1 cup Hard Boiled Eggs - 2 Rajma (Kidney Beans) - 1/2 cup cooked with a little salt Carrot - 2 , julienne cuts Green Beans - 10 to 12 julienne cuts Green Pepper (Capsicum) - 1 small - cut into thin slices First boil 4 to 5 quarts of  water in a large pot and add a tsp of salt and a tsp of olive oil to it. Take it off the stove , put the pasta in it and stir. It is done, when it is cooked to bite consistency, not too  soft. That is it. It is done. Drain it in a colander and show it under running tap water, so that it does not stick together.  Heat a pan, and pour 1 tbsp of olive oil (you can use your cooking oil too), add the onions, saute for a minute. Everyone love these Indian Crepes. Instead of making traditional white rice dosas, we can make Brown Rice Dosas. I tried these brown rice crepes from Brown Basmati Rice. You will need : Brown Basmati Rice / just Brown Rice -  3 cups  Urad Dal / Black Gram  - 1/2 cup Soak both the rice and the dal separately for 2 hours.
